At St Andrew’s, we offer two weekends of Individually Guided Retreat (IGR) during the year. In our programme, we have named these retreats ‘Stepping Stones into Silence’ as they are a particularly good opportunity to experience a silent retreat for the first time. We also have an 8-Day Individually guided retreat and a silent theme retreat during a bank holiday week-end. All are self-catering.
The next silent retreats in 2025 are:
Sunday 27 July to Tuesday 5 August 2025: An Urban Oasis Silent Retreat.

Friday 27 to Sunday 29 October 2025: Stepping Stones into Silence.

What happens during a weekend IGR at St Andrew’s?
Friday: Arrival is from 5 pm. One of the Sisters will give you a tour of the house. You can then settle down in your room. At 6.30 pm there is an Evening Prayer in the Chapel.
At 8.15 pm, there is an introduction to the weekend with both the Sisters and other retreatants followed by a time of prayer together in the Chapel.
Saturday:
At some point during the day, you will meet with one of the Sisters (you will have been given a meeting time on Friday). She will provide you with resources and guidance on how to live this retreat.
You are welcome to join the sisters for their Evening prayer at 6.30 pm
Sunday:
As on Saturday, you will meet again with a Sister.
There is the possibility to attend Sunday services at one of the neighbouring churches (different times).
4.00 or 4.30 pm: Closing prayer. The time of Silent retreat ends at the end of the prayer.
You are welcome to stay for a short time of tea/coffee.
